The Bronze Method

If there’s one thing I hate to be (besides bloated), it’s pale. Pale is not my jam. I don’t do well with pale. Anyone feel me on this? I know I’m not alone. Because really, who likes to be pale?

NO ONE.

But as much as being pale sucks, skin cancer sucks WAY worse. So, JUST SAY NO to tanning beds. Spray tans are where it’s at, my friends.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately regarding my spray tan habits. So I figured I’d just share my secrets with all of you. Because after seven years of getting my bronze sprayed on, I feel like I’ve pretty much got this ish down to a science. 🙂

I’ve tried it all. I’ve done Mystic (regular and HD), I’ve done VersaSpa, and I’ve done self-spray spray tans. I’ve even had people come to my house to spray me. I’ve literally done it all. But my go-to is VersaSpa. And I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

Ok, so why VersaSpa?

Here’s the secret, y’all — Everyone’s skin is different! Some people do well with Mystic, and some don’t. Some people loathe Versa, and others love it. It all depends on the look you’re going for, and the tone of your skin.

For me, VersaSpa works. I do the medium level during the winter; and during the spring and summer, I do the dark level. And I ALWAYS do bronze. The clear solution makes me orange, and I can’t stand it. But for those with fair skin, the clear will work for you.

What’s the difference between bronze and clear?

Bronze: A bronze color is sprayed on with your tan (your color will continue to develop within 4-6 hours). Clear: The spray is clear, and your color will develop gradually within 4-6 hours.

Mystic is a little different. You can only do clear. But, you can add “bronzers.” Mystic turns me orange every time, even when I do the added bronzers. It just doesn’t agree with my skin. But again, for those with fair skin, Mystic might be your favorite.

In all honesty, you just have to experiment a little. The sweet women at the tanning salon will tell you all sorts of confusing facts…but the truth of the matter is, they don’t know what will look best on you. You’ve got to try it for yourself!

And regardless of what type of spray you do, caring for your skin is crucial. Prep, prime and prolong — The three steps to my Bronze Method.

1. Prep – Exfoliate.

2. Prime – Use a primer. It’s worth it.

3. Prolong – Moisturize!
