I don’t know what’s worse: someone who can’t appreciate a good stack of pancakes, or someone who constantly complains about their current city “situation”. I think they’re equally bad…and equally annoying.
I was raised in West Texas, I grew up in West Texas, I have never left West Texas, and I don’t think I’ll ever be leaving West Texas. And I am absolutely, totally 100% OK with that. I’m wildly obsessed with traveling and seeing beautiful new places, but I’m always thankful to return to my little bubble.
With Spring Break withdrawals setting in, and summer-itis beginning to flourish, the complaints about Lubbock, on social media, are in full swing —
Oh my god..get me out of here. This place sucks!
Ew, get me to Dallas. ASAP.
Ugh…hurry up, graduation. I need to get out of this hell hole.
Lubbock is the armpit of Texas.
There is absolutely nothing to do here. WTF I hate my life.
My personal favorite: Lubbock is the armpit of Texas. Is it really? Because have you been to Muleshoe where it literally smells like armpits…rotting…? Didn’t think so.
I will be the first to admit: I used to hate Lubbock too. I moved to Lubbock from a place where bitches are bred. A place where bitches throw parties for you just to show you they’re the queen bitch. A place where bitches reign and rule. Midland — The land of the rich and the home of the bitches.
And then I moved to Lubbock. A clusterf*** of bitches all crammed into one university in one little town. I made it through four (lightning-fast) years of this little town, and then proceeded to stay. Thanks to some handsome eye doctor who stole my heart…
It wasn’t until I graduated and ventured outside of University, Broadway, and Greek Circle, that I realized Lubbock is really not that bad at all. In fact, I actually kind of love it now. And I actually get (kind of) offended when I hear people say they hate Lubbock. But it’s not their fault, they just don’t know how to find fun! 😉
In an effort to keep life exciting, the boyfriend and I are constantly trying new things around town…or at least making an effort to. We have our favorite spots, and they’re reeeeeally hard to stray from. (Shout-out to the waiter at Ruby’s who knows our order by heart!)
This past weekend, we tried Italian Garden for the first time. Literally the best Italian food I’ve ever had (in the states). If you haven’t gone…GO! It is so, so good. I can’t wait to go back!
I successfully put myself into a food coma Saturday night. It was THAT good.
Sunday morning, we tried The Crafthouse Gastropub for the first time. Their Sunday Brunch was fabulous!
Yup, those are blueberry pancakes. And yes, that’s lemon-infused syrup. Aaaaaand yes, I do eat these things. Life’s too short not to!
My weekend ended on a productive note — house cleaned, Miami trip halfway planned, grocery shopping done, and a thunderstorm. That’s my kind of Sunday Funday.
Do yourself a favor, and order some of these Rag & Bone leggings. I’m absolutely obsessed. Comfy and flattering — the perfect “errand pant”.
I hope this post inspires you to explore your city, no matter where you live. Because there’s always fun to be found; you just have to look. Embrace your city, and go enjoy a good stack of pancakes, bitches. Life’s too short not to! Xo
I love this post! I believe you can find fun and interesting things every where, even in West Texas. When I interned with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce I learned even more about all the fun things to do here and all we have to offer. For example, the south plains area produces 75% of all Texas wine grapes, which is awesome for a wino like me. Lubbock has so many cool local spots that could impress any city slicker in my opinion, they just aren’t looking hard enough.
I couldn’t agree more, Sarah!
