To those of you who are embarking on your very first fitness journey, discovering exercise for the first time, picking up where you left off before the holidays, or simply giving it another go ’round, this one’s for you…
Dear New Girl,
You did it. You’re finally here. You’re putting one foot in front of the other; and you’re working out. It’s not that bad, right?…Once you get passed the initial I-have-no-idea-what-I’m-doing-I-look-like-an-idiot complex. Trust me, no one is looking at you and thinking you’re an idiot. Everyone else is just worried about themselves. Look around… No one is staring at you; it’s all in your head. Ignore any eye rolls or rude looks you receive. Those people are just miserable human beings. Give them a big smile and go on about your business.
You may feel like you have no idea what you’re doing, but dig deep, you DO know what you’re doing. You are taking control of your health. You are being proactive. And you are kicking ass. Yes, you will be sore; but it will pass. Yes, it will be hard; but it will be worth it. No, you will not achieve your ideal body overnight; it takes time. Be patient, and DON’T give up. You know how it goes — Nothing worth having comes easy.
Be proud of yourself. You are incredible. This journey will not be easy, but I can promise you it will be worth your time. Keep on keepin’ on, sister. You got this! And when you feel like giving up, just know that I’m right here cheering you on.
Love,
