Be Careful What You Wish For

Does anyone else feel like time is moving at supersonic speed? It just hit me this morning that it has been THREE years since I’ve graduated; and it’s already time for little sister to move out of the dorm. She’s almost finished with ONE year of college. Good lawwwd.

Why is it the older I get, the faster time goes by? I don’t like it. I want to kick myself in the face for wishing time away when I was younger.

Remember the days when all you could think about was getting the hell out of your hometown? Or speeding through your very last final of college just to say you were DONE? And now you’d give anything to go back?

Why do we wish the time away when we’re little? Wouldn’t it be nice if life came with a warning? WARNING: Be careful what you wish for — Life is about to speed up. Brace yourself.

But it’s not just when we’re little; we wish time away every day…

“Ugh, I’m so over the cold. Hurry up, Summer!”

“I need a vacation nowwwww. These 10 days better fly by.”

“How many more PTA meetings ’til graduation? These moms can kiss my…”

See? We wish away time, without even realizing it.

Rather than enjoying the journey, we’re all focused on the destination. The end result. The conclusion. The happily ever after. But what happens when we meet the destination?…

Our sights are instantly set on the next.

As the beginning of another summer rapidly approaches, I challenge you to give yourself a break. Your life does not depend on a perfect bikini body, because your family and friends will love you regardless.

Enjoy life as it comes, and don’t complicate the process. Live, learn and love life with a contagious passion. Take the destination out of focus, and zoom in on the journey. You will get there eventually. Xo

Love, Mattie Claire
