Happy 2014 everyone! I love seeing pictures from New Year’s celebrations. Number one, almost every single picture has glitter or sparkles in it; and number two, everyone looks hopeful.
Hopeful — an important word we sometimes tend to forget. Why is it we all have hope for a new beginning, a fresh start, a new leaf on only one day of the year? Yes, I most certainly agree it’s important to be hopeful for the new year, but why not be hopeful all year round? Wouldn’t life be a little easier?
What if we all woke up each morning, in 2014, with a New-Year’s-Day attitude? The Facebook statuses might get a little (ok, maybe a lot) old, but the hope-inspired ambition might do us all a little good.
So you’ve set a goal to lose 10 pounds by spring break. You do great this week, but eat a pizza and a half next weekend. Are you going to wait until 2015 to start over? No. You’re going to wake up, eat a healthy breakfast, restart your diet, and hope for the best.
You’re disgustingly miserable at work, and you have promised yourself to make a change. You have a better attitude, you make an effort to make work-friends, and nothing is working. Don’t give up. It’s not you, it’s them. Trust me. When you do your very best and it’s still not enough, IT IS THEM! Just do what you gotta do, be kind, and hope for the best.
There’s just something about hopeful people. They are like magnets; you can’t help but be drawn to them. They start speaking, and you find yourself effortlessly believing every word they say because you want to experience the hope fueling their ambition. We all know that one person. The person you stalk on social media just to see the next feat they’ve conquered. The person you seek out in a group because they are kind. The person who makes you want to be a better person. These “persons” have one thing in common — hope. They have hope for the future, they have hope in themselves, and they have hope in the ones they love. It’s the secret to their success.
Successful people are hopeful people. They aren’t bullshitters, they aren’t liars, and they’re not quitters. They start each day with a New-Year’s-Day attitude. They give it their all and they hope for the best.
What do you say to giving hope a try for 2014?
Happy New Year, friends! I hope you all have the best year yet. Xo
