Five years ago in the gym, on the treadmill next to me, I met a girl.ย I listened to the girl talk about her internship, taking careful mental notes on her experience. She was humble, honest, kind, and most importantly, inspiring.
Before I knew it, my workout was over. But the girl on the treadmill next to me, without even knowing it, helped me raise the bar for myself.
After endless research, resume workshops, and intimidating interviews, I landed my first internship. An internship where I just happened to work in the exact same office as the girl on the treadmill.ย She always kindly said hello, she was in great shape, and she looked perfect every.single.day.
She continued to be inspiring. She made being successful look possible; and she was (and still is) the girl who raised the bar for EVERY girl.
Time went on, and the girl on the treadmill graduated at the top of our class. She met the man of her dreams, got married, and went to law school.
A few weeks ago, the girl on the treadmill emailed me. She introduced herself, stated exactly what she wanted to gain from personal training, and claimed she just wasn’t completely satisfied with her body at the moment.
The girl on the treadmill wanted help from ME? Is this real life?…ย It was real life. And it’s been real fun!
Before we started, I asked her to set a short-term fitness goal. This was her response: “I want to tone, sculpt and strengthen the “problem” areas on my body, and improve my overall physical appearance. I would like to be proud of the body I see in the mirror.”
As I do with all of my clients, I encouraged her to take a “before” picture so she could track her progress. (Pictures are the BEST motivators!)
After only two weeks, this is what she has accomplished:
So needless to say, she’s kicked her short-term goal in the ass; and she’s lapping it for the second time.
Between finishing law school, preparing for the bar, and gearing up for her new job in Fort Worth, I consider the thirty minutes she spends with me an honor. This girl works her butt off, and I can’t wait to see her results at the end of the month!
Three years out of college, and the girl on the treadmill is still inspiring me to raise the bar for myself. Funny how life works out, isn’t it? ๐
Inspired by her 2 weeks’ progress? Leave her some love and encouragement in a comment below! Xo
Major shout out to the girl on the treadmill! Now she has inspired me too. I am leaving on a major vacation in 9 weeks. I wonder what we could we accomplish by then…
