The hardest part, hands down, of transitioning into an office job was figuring out a new workout routine. A healthy work(out)-life balance, if you will…
I went from being able to work out whenever the heck I wanted to (in-between clients), to being glued to a chair, stuck in a cubicle. Talk about a culture shock! And I’m not gonna lie, it was hard as hell to adjust.
I tried it all. Working out before work, during lunch, after work, two-a-days, solo, with a group, two on one. You name it, I tried it. And none of those options were easy. But if it were easy, everybody would do it. (Remember that!)
I never workout during lunch anymore. It was just too much. The idea was great; and I gave it a valiant effort. But rushing like a mad woman, and then coming back to work looking like a wet dog, just wasn’t cutting it for me.
My evening workouts aren’t quite as frequent as they used to be. But when I can’t get my butt out of bed in the morning, I force myself to do something at night. Because if I don’t hold myself accountable, who will?
Now my workouts primarily consist of 6 a.m. spin classes 4-5 times per week; and weight training at home when I don’t make it to spin. (You can find a few of my favorite at-home workouts here, here and here.) But no matter what, I always find time to fit in an ab + arm workout at least 5 days per week. I made that a habit a long time ago, and I refuse to let it go. 🙂
Discovering what worked best for me did not happen overnight. It was frustrating! I was really hard on myself, and felt defeated more times than not. But if you’re struggling to find your work(out)-life balance, don’t give up. You’ll find what works best for you. I promise. Just remember, what works for your friends (or girls you admire on insta), might not work for you. And that is A-ok, sister.
If you ever have questions, need to vent, or just need a workout buddy, you know where to find me. Email me, leave me a comment, dm me. I’m here. <3
Stay fit, sweet friends. Xo
