How do you keep your hair so long? How is it so healthy? Is it real? Help!
I receive these hair questions on the daily, so I figured it’d be helpful to do a little Q & A with the hair guru himself! (Scot from Bijou Salon.)
Scot has kept my hair long, beautiful, strong and healthy for almost 10 years now. So if you’re ever in Lubbock, and you need some serious hair help, hit him up! He’ll change your life.
He’s also my hero for letting me pick his brain for two hours while he worked on my hair.
The things I do for my FiC readers… 😉
The struggle is so real y’all. This is how we have to blow dry my hair so it doesn’t take an hour.
Ok, so let’s get to the good stuff. The most helpful tips you’ll read all day. . .
FiC: How does someone improve the health of their hair? What’s most important here?Â
Scot: Most people don’t realize how important a healthy diet is for their hair. Exercise makes a huge difference, too. And circulation — the better the circulation, the healthier the hair.
FiC: We all know you get what you pay for. We need to be using the right color on our hair, the right shampoos, and products, etc. But are there any supplements you’d recommend?Â
Scot: A multivitamin and Biotin, definitely. (Side note: I take both of these. You can find the multivitamin I take here, and the Biotin I take here.)
FiC: I only wash my hair three times per week. Am I doing it wrong? How often should I be washing my hair?Â
Scot: The longer the hair, the longer you should space out shampoos. This is especially important for those with curly hair. If you’re worried about the smell, you can always just rinse it out with water, and add a little conditioner to deodorize. (Brilliant, right?!)
FiC: Are regular trims really that important for long hair?Â
Scot: Trimming helps with tangles, which have a tendency to make hair snap off at the ends. But really, it’s all about hair health.
FiC: Ok, speaking of tangles. They’re a pain in my ass sometimes. Help!
Scot: Try a cool rinse at the end of your shower. Warm water opens the hair cuticle, which in turn causes tangles. Cool water seals the cuticle, making hair extra shiny and easier to work with. A Wet Brush or wide-tooth comb are best for wet hair. (Here’s the brush I use. And here’s my favorite comb!)
FiC: For my readers with fine hair, what type of cut should they ask for?Â
Scot: A blunt style makes hair appear thicker. Ask for a little layering underneath for extra volume. (Try using this Thickening Tonic. It’s bomb! Even for those without fine hair.)
FiC: What type of cut do you give me? Just curious. 🙂
Scot: Really long layers, with the edge off the bottom for softness, volume and movement.
FiC: What hair products do you consider most important?
Scot: The products that protect your hair from heat styling, sun, etc, leave-in conditioner is great, and everybody needs a hair mask. — Once a week, or twice a month, depending on how thick your hair is.
FiC: Are there any new products my readers need to be using?Â
Scot:Â Daily Split End Repair or Damage Remedy.
