If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a faux bride for a day, let me tell you — it’s hard freakin’ work. Kudos to all you brides out there; because it is NOT easy. Fun, glamorous, and princess-like…but not easy.
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of being a model/faux bride for Kayla Barker. If you don’t know Kayla Barker, you should. She is THE photographer. She is a genius. She’s creative, kind, generous, thoughtful. She’s pretty much everything. I’ve always admired her work, and being photographed by her was an honor.
And just FYI, all these pics you see on my blog today were taken with her iPhone. These aren’t even the pics from her fancy camera. I’m dying to see all of those; I know they will be breathtaking.
Kayla had this “Desert Bridal” shoot in her head for a loonngggg time, and it was kind of a miracle we were able to pull it off in the middle of this crazy busy holiday season. Like I said, she’s everything. Miracle worker included. I mean look at those candles! Who thinks of that?! Fabulous. (Kayla’s awesome husband, Clint, Kayla, and myself set and reset those candles over and over. The wind was CRAZY!)
And how incredible is that dress? It’s Claire Pettibone.
Looks like it fits me like a glove right? Well…
Surpriiise! What’s a photoshoot without a good behind-the-scenes shot? The dress was like 10 sizes too big, so getting the perfect shot (without any clips showing) was anything but easy. Photography creativity at its finest.
Can we talk about that bouquet? Bows and Arrows Flowers hand-delivered all of the flowers for the shoot. Their work is incredible! Do yourself a favor and check out their website and Instagram.
If you want a killer calf workout, go stand on your tippy toes, in the sand, fighting off 30 mph winds. My legs are still sore from Saturday. (Thanks for the free workout, Kayla!) A dress that’s 10 sizes too big has a tendency to be 10 times too long. So yes, I’m on my tippy toes in all of these pictures. The struggle of being 5′ 5″ is real, y’all.
If anyone is looking for a makeup artist for your wedding or special event, contact Ashlee Rice at Let’s Face It Makeup Studio. This woman is a makeup goddess. Loved her work…and her!
So there you have it; my day as a faux bride — a fun and challenging experience. And I can’t wait to do it for real…someday.
Have a great week, and stay fit, friends! Xo
You’re beautiful! Love the dress!
Aw thank you, Mary! I loved the dress too.
Do you have a secret tip on how you get your eyebrows like that? I know its a strange question and probably just how they grow…. But do you put liner on them? trim them a certain way? Just curious. Thanks!
Not a strange question at all, Priscilla! The woman who did my makeup actually used an eyebrow powder. They look great, right? I need her to do my eyebrows every day! 🙂
