After gaining a roommate for the first time in six years, my life has completely changed (for the better). And it’s not just any roommate, it’s The Little Sister…who’s not so little anymore.
The Little Sister, who one day wants to open her own catering business (and will totally be a famous chef someday), has been schooling me in the kitchen lately. It hasn’t even been a week, and I feel like I’m 10 times more knowledgable about wtf is in our kitchen.
I mean let’s be real…I didn’t even own a cheese grater when I lived on my own. I’d start a recipe, and then have to call her in the middle to coach me through it. And fancy restaurants with menus I don’t understand? Thank you Snapchat. Aaaaand thank you Little Sister.
It goes without being said that I’m not the only one benefitting from this awesomeness. I get to share everything I’m learning with all of you. So, you’re welcome. 🙂
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw the fabulous Caprese Salad she made last night.
Loved it. Although I’m really not a fan of basil, the chopped fresh basil on top totally made it.
And if you’re ever wondering what the heck to do with all of the leftover basil…
Fill up a mug/vase/cup with fresh water, trim the stems, and then add the basil to the water. Depending on the type of basil, and how often you change out the water, your basil should keep fresh for up to a week.
Not only does it look pretty in your kitchen, it keeps the flies away. Double win! (P.S. Thanks to the BFF for the mug. It’s my favorite.)
I got a little camera-happy while snapping shots of the basil, so here’s a little glimpse of this week’s kitchen-table flower arrangement.
There’s just something about fresh flowers that make a house a home. Oh, and little Miss Clementine was in a modeling mood. So, again, you’re welcome…
What’s your favorite thing to keep in your kitchen? Fresh flowers? Fresh fruit? Share your ideas with me; I’d love to hear! Xo
Thank you for this idea!!!!! I order this all of the time at Maggianos and there is no reason that I cannot make it on my own at home. Plus I have my own potted basil plant in my attempt to garden, so now a a new use. Good sharing 🙂
